Every year, autumn comes around reminding us that slowing down, changing colours, shedding leaves is imperative in the cycle of the seasons. Yet, for us, we continue to demand productivity and keep to the same routines. Our downtime becomes more sofa time, more activities reliant on tech for entertainment to ‘pass the time’, well it has in my life, perhaps you relate? It’s never quite sat right with me. And this year I found the cycle of Samhain.

Autumn and Samhain are represented by nature's pine cones and an ambient burning candle.

The lessons of the season are calling me. What were the ways of our ancestors during this time and how have we lost connection to these practices? Is this impacting connection to both land and community? – These are the questions that circle my heart.

I’m on a journey with the Rose and this has had me finally answering some of these questions. Reclaiming and remembering what has been lost, whilst being playful in how this knowledge and these practices evolve.

Let’s dive in to the cycle of Samhain…

The invitation is to step into your wisdom, utilising a thin veil between worlds and dimensions. The call is to our ancestors, wise grandmothers, embodying crone energy. We mark the end of the harvest and prepare for the depths of winter. Guidance and connection to ancestry during this time show us where we have been and how we move forward ready for the light of spring to eventually greet us once again.

Transformation, is the acceptance of endings and the embrace of beginnings. Samhain is exactly this. Rebirth takes place when we embrace our shadow with love. As nature sinks into the earth, so must we. We may meet pain, heartache, grief and yes, there’s discomfort here, however descending into our shadows grants us the opportunity to complete necessary inner work. A dedication to creating space within, transmute the shadows to welcome more and new light. It is in the depths of ourselves that we find the pearls of inner wisdom.

The spiral was a symbol of the womb – the journey of descent that leads to rebirth. A nonlinear path. Exactly as life truly is, nothing about it is linear.

Are you familiar with the triple Goddess? Maiden, Mother, Crone. They are the first of the three Womb Grail Gates.

It is through Samhain that we attune to grandmother wisdom. It is the crones who guided the village through winter alongside the support of divine masculine, allowing mysteries of our inner caves to become the medicine.

Within Womb lore the spiral represents the descent within - a true connection to the cycle of Samhain.

Goddesses to support you…

Goddesses calling me at this time are Ceridwen, Isis and Aphrodite. Ceridwen with her cauldron of transformation and transmution have become deeply healing to me. In deep meditation my inner cave called and there she was. Wild Woman, soft and gentle with a sternness and demand of courage. She was ready for me. Together, I was able to shed layers of the seasons just gone, the pains of this life and past lives, the wounds of my lineage. Aphrodite has gifted me site in her mirror of truth to be witness to outdated patterns, and Isis has been a channel of strength during sacred mourning.

Within a Druid stone circle in Wales, I stood to receive blessings of the Rose leading me to the cycle of Samhain.

The power of going within during the cycle of Samhain has been, for me, layered in fear for much of my life. If I stop and go within I’ll have to face the ‘demons’. What I’m discovering is that there aren’t the grief, shame, anger is how the toxic patriarchy survives and the divine matriarchy is kept quiet. When we truly set up our containers to spiral within the transformation of self is profound – no wonder we’re layered with so much from such a young age.

Do you resonate to the cycle of Samhain? Do you feel the call? Perhaps our upcoming Spiral Within event is for you.
